Anatomical donation is a selfless act that significantly advances medical science and education. By donating your body after death, you are enabling health care professionals to gain a better understanding of the normal and diseased states of the human body.

The Funeral Home's Role in Anatomical Donation

At Milam Funeral Home, we understand that considering anatomical donation is a deeply personal decision. We are here to support you and your family through the process with compassion and respect. Here's how we can assist:

  • Provide Information and Resources: We can answer most of your questions about anatomical donation, including eligibility requirements, the donation process, and what to expect. We can also connect you with reputable organizations that facilitate anatomical donations.
  • Coordination with Donation Programs: Once you decide to proceed with anatomical donation, we will coordinate with the chosen organization to ensure the seamless transfer of your loved one's remains. For many of our clients, this involves working closely with the University of Florida Anatomical Board { https://anatbd.acb.med.ufl.edu/ } , located here in Gainesville.
  • Respectful Care: We will treat your loved one with the utmost dignity and care throughout the entire process.
  • Memorialization Options: Even though the body is donated, families can still hold memorial services or celebrations of life. We can help you plan a meaningful tribute to honor your loved one.

Costs Associated with Anatomical Donation

While the anatomical board itself does not charge a fee, funeral home services are necessary to prepare and transport the deceased. Our fee for anatomical donation services is $1,995. This includes:

  • Embalming that meets the specific requirements for anatomical donation
  • Transportation to the funeral home from the place of death (within 25 miles of the funeral home, additional mileage fee applies after the first 25 miles)
  • Transportation to the Anatomical Board (within 25 miles of the funeral home, additional mileage fee applies after the first 25 miles)
