Thomas Walker Jr.

–

Gainesville, Florida

It is with profound sadness that we remember Thomas Walker Jr., a dedicated father, respected professor, and passionate entomologist, who departed this life on April 8, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on July 24, 1931, in Dyersburg, TN, Thomas, or "Tom" as he was fondly known, had a deep-seated love for understanding the intricacies of the insect world. His life was a testament to the adage "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life." He embodied this truth, dedicating his professional life to the University of Florida as a Professor of Entomology where he nurtured the minds of many young scholars.

Possessing an unquenchable curiosity and a thirst for knowledge, Thomas was always buzzing with ideas and discoveries about the insect world. He was a beacon of wisdom and an inspiration to his students, colleagues, and family members. He was known for his wit, intellectual rigor, and the warmth with which he welcomed all those who sought knowledge from him. He was a firm believer in the words of Albert Einstein, "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing."

Thomas is survived by his loving children, Rose Ann Walker and Bill Walker. They were the apples of his eye, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Walker Sr. and Annabel Walker. His life and legacy will be celebrated in a green burial on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at 10:00am EDT at the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery, County Road 234, Gainesville, Florida, 32641. The services will be under the care of Milam Funeral and Cremation Services at 311 S. Main Street.

We invite you to share your memories, tributes, and photographs of Thomas on his memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a comforting reminder of the impact he had on the lives of those who knew him. May his memory inspire us to live curiously, passionately, and with a profound respect for the natural world he loved so much.
