Steven "Blake" Harrison Obituary (1962 - 2024)

Mr. Steven “Blake '' Harrison age 61 of Micanopy passed away Friday, July 19, 2024, at Haven Hospice in Gainesville. He was born December 27, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Henry C. and Joan (Sorrell) Harrison, Jr. . Blake moved to Gainesville in the early 70’s and earned his Master’s degree in Art from the University of Florida. His talents were used by teaching art at Santa Fe College and was best known for painting several murals around town, but is most known for his mural of Tom Petty on South Main and 16th as well as the memorial for Tom Petty on the 34th street wall. Blake was an avid pool player and was nicknamed “The Professor” because he would go out of his way to teach and help the people he played with, plus he was actually a professor. He was known for being extremely outgoing, caring, and would give anyone a place to stay if needed, and even helped others find jobs. Blake would help in any way he could for anyone, Blake was a friend to ALL! On June 28, 2024, Gainesville Mayor Harvey L. Ward, Jr. made a Proclamation that July 18th be known as Blake Harrison Day. Blake is survived by his dear friend Suzi McQuinney along with a brother Hank Harrions and sister Debora Harrison. There are no scheduled services at this time.
