Robert E. Dykes

Robert "Bob" Earl Dykes, 82, passed away Monday, November 25, 2024. He was born in Bruce, Mississippi on March 21, 1942, to Forest and Josephine Dykes. He received his bachelor’s degree in education at Mississippi State University and his master's degree from the University of Texas. Bob resided in Gainesville, Florida since the 1970s. He worked for Alachua County Public Schools for 30 years where he taught English and later served as an assistant principal. He is survived by his wife Bonny Dykes, children Jeannine Robbins, Nathan Dykes, and Leah Lemmon, and his grandchildren Brynn, Ashley, Jennifer, Jason, and Annalyse. He was a lifetime member of Kiwanis International, serving as Lieutenant Governor for the state of Florida. Bob also served as president of the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The funeral services will take place on Monday, December 2, 2024, at 1:00 pm in the chapel at Forest Meadows Memorial Park located at 4100 NW 39th Ave Gainesville, FL 32606.
