Gainesville, Florida
Paul John Cakmis, a beloved member of the Gainesville, Florida community, passed away on June 7, 2024. Born in Cambridge, Ohio, Paul brought his unique charm and passion to everything he did. He is survived by his loving family members: Terri Parke, and his daughters, Allee and Grace Cakmis.
Between maple bars, John Wayne, and the Florida Gators – to know Paul was to love him. His journey to Gainesville began in Jacksonville with a dream of becoming a sports journalist. However, it was during his paper boy route and while building houses that Paul experienced an “ah-ha” moment: “Let me open a restaurant.”
For the past forty years, Paul has been a cornerstone of the Gainesville community, creating a beloved staple for families and food lovers alike. Whether it meant filling your coffee cup, bussing a table for the next customer, or sitting at table 38 to make his orders for the next day, you couldn’t miss Paul in his khaki shorts and 43rd Street Deli shirt.
Gainesville lost a true legend today, but his legacy will live on for many, many years to come.
