Oren Dale McGettrick, affectionately known as Dale, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at Haven Hospice in Palatka, Florida, following a long battle with health challenges. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and man of faith whose humor and kindness touched the lives of many.
Born and raised in Cortez, Colorado, Dale was the son of Peter and Jessie McGettrick. He grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work, perseverance, and family. Dale was the last surviving of seven children and was preceded in death by his siblings DeWayne, Vivian, Veryl, Jewel, Garvin, and Dennis McGettrick.
Dale proudly served his country in the United States Army. While stationed in France, he rose to the rank of Sergeant, demonstrating leadership and dedication to those he served alongside. Following his active-duty service, he continued serving in the Army Reserves until he was medically discharged.
During his time in the Army, Dale met the love of his life, Carole. They were married in 1967 and shared many years together building a family rooted in love and faith. In 1972, they were blessed with twin daughters, Ann Marie Johnson and Jan Louise Welch. Dale was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carole, and his daughter, Jan Louise Welch.
He leaves behind his loving daughter, Ann Marie Johnson; son-in-law, David Johnson; grandson, Tyler Johnson; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Dale found happiness in life's simple gifts. He loved fishing, watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets, reading Louis L'Amour novels, and enjoying classic Western movies. He had a remarkable ability to make others laugh and was known for his quick wit, warm personality, and genuine care for those around him.
Above all, Dale was strong in his faith in the Lord. He faithfully attended Westside Baptist Church in Gainesville, Florida, and later First Baptist Church in Interlachen after moving in with Ann and David due to declining health. His faith was a source of strength and comfort throughout his life and an example to those who knew him.
Dale will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love of family, military service, resilience in the face of adversity, and the laughter he so generously shared. While his family grieves his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in the presence of his Savior and reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
Dale's legacy of faith, love, service, and humor will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
