Nickolas Tilliman Obituary (1983 - 2023)

Our hearts are heavy today as one of our Alachua County deputies, a loyal servant and protector of our community and nation through the Army Reserves and Navy, suddenly and unexpectedly ends his watch on Feb 15, 2023.Nickolas Tilliman was born the second of three children on February 12, 1983, to father Unray Tilliman and mother Gwen Guzman in Petersburg, VA. His mother, who also served in the United States Army and moved about as military families do, moved to Gainesville, FL, for Nickolas's Elementary school years, then to Hawaii for middle school, and back to Gainesville where he attended and graduated from Buchholtz High School.After completing High School, Nickolas joined the United States Navy and served as a Gunner's Mate. Following his naval service, he joined the United States Army Reserves and served as an 88 November Transportation Management Coordinator. He joined the Alachua County Sheriff's office five years ago and then deployed to Afghanistan. Upon returning from deployment, he returned to his service with ACSO. Nickolas had both a humourous and generous spirit. Friends and colleagues remember while working on a bicycle drive for the Toys for Tots organization, Nickolas came bounding out of the trailer riding one of the youth bikes with a huge smile, spreading laughter all around as he circled the parking lot. He loved to grill out! One of his favorite events of the year was the annual Fourth of July Celebration at Chrisper's Place. Every year he would win the patriotic outfit contest, hands down.Sunday Gun Days, working out at GHFC, camping, and hanging out with his rescue dog Pistol Pete were some of the activities that brought him the most joy. He is survived by his parents, his two brothers, James Walters II, Daniel Guzman, and his beloved nephews C.J., Zack, and Alex. Those closest to him remember him as a loyal and giving friend.
