Murray Cassel Teuton, 85, of Gainesville, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on July 24, 2026. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather whose kindness, wisdom, unwavering faith, and love touched the lives of everyone who knew him.
Murray was born in Ocala, Florida to Orin and Willigene Teuton on March 6, 1941. He dedicated his life to serving both his family and his calling as a pastor. Murray grew up on a family farm in Gainesville, Florida, a place he dearly loved and where he developed a passion for working with cattle. During his years at Gainesville Highschool, he was an active member of Future Farmers of America, earning numerous awards for his accomplishments and dedication. He later attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where he majored in Animal Husbandry.
Following college, Murray served as the Head Herdsman of the Purebred Cattle Department at the University of Florida. Although he enjoyed his work in agriculture, God had a greater calling for his life. While attending North Central Baptist Church, Murray felt called into the ministry. In response to that calling, he moved to Graceville, Florida to attend the Baptist Bible Institute. While attending Bible College, Murray accepted his first pastorate at Orange Hill Baptist Church in Wausau, Florida. He continued his education at Stetson University, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. After graduating, he was called to pastor at First Baptist Church of Seville. He was later called to West Normandy Baptist Church, where he faithfully served as pastor for 33 years until his retirement. Through decades of ministry, he faithfully preached the Gospel, shepherded his congregation with compassion and wisdom, and left an impact on countless lives.
On December 6, 1961 Murray married the love of his life, Caroline Bettie Teuton and together they built a loving, Christ-centered family that became the joy of his life. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of faith, commitment, and enduring love for more than 64 years. Murray enjoyed continuous study of God’s Word and remained a devoted student of the Scriptures throughout his life. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time on the family farm where he grew up—a place that always held a special place in his heart.
In retirement, Murray was a faithful member of Windsor Baptist Church, where he loved worshipping alongside his church family and serving as a Sunday School Teacher. Whether spending time with family and friends, sharing God’s Word, or simply enjoying God’s creation, Murray’s quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on all who knew him. His greatest joy was being surrounded by those he loved and his legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to be remembered by those who will miss him dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bettie Teuton; sister Linda (George) Hemingway; his children Carol Teuton Locke, James (Eva) Teuton, and Bonnie (Darin) Hinton; grandchildren Rachel (Ryan) Boyd, Rebecca (Alexis) Locke, Zoe Perton, Hunter (Carrie) Brantley, Hailee (Kenny) Brantley; great-grandchildren Rhett Boyd, Reid Boyd, Brayden Brantley, and Brooks Brantley; and a host of family and friends.
