–

High Springs, Florida

Marilyn Martin Fincher, 88, of High Springs, Florida passed away quietly in her sleep on Friday, August 30, 2024. She was born on January 8, 1936 in Shelbyville, Tennessee to Cora and Walter Green. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Carl Fincher, and her sisters Winifred “Winnie” Muse and Maureen Wilde.

After graduating from Shelbyville Central High School, Marilyn attended classes at Georgia State University, where she met Carl. They eloped on April 1, 1955. The couple had three children: Steven Martin (Lee) Fincher, Mary Ellen (Richard) Sheets, and John Carl (Donna) Fincher.

For many years, Marilyn worked as a customer service advisor at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta, Georgia. After she and Carl retired, they returned to the Atlanta area and became active in the seniors group at Henry Baptist Church and the Henry County Senior Center. They also traveled frequently, especially with the seniors at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Jonesboro. For the past several years, it was Marilyn’s joy to live with Mary Ellen and husband Richard in their North Florida home.

She will also be mourned by other family, friends and neighbors at Statenville Baptist Church, Henry Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of High Springs.
