Marguerite Pettway

Marguerite “Margo” Burnett Hudspeth Pettway, devoted wife of Richard
Henry Harper Pettway, loving mother of Richard Eric Randolph Pettway
(Mary), grandmother of Elle, Reese and Evelyn Pettway. Dear sister of Bob
(Frieda) Hudspeth also survived by many caring relatives and friends. Margo
passed on July 16, 2024 at the age of 82.
Margo grew up in Dallas, Texas.  She attended DePauw University where she
was a member of the Tri Delta sorority.  There she created lifelong friendships.
 Her friends remember Margo as a lover of foreign languages with a strong
desire for travel.  She spent her junior year abroad in Madrid, Munich,
Geneva, and Paris.  She remained close to her friends and had biannual
reunions.
Margo continued her education at the University of Texas at Austin and went
on to receive a Master of Arts in Foreign Language.  She met Harper in Austin
in 1963.  They married in August of 1965.  They lived in Lansing, MI,
Gainesville, FL, Chapel Hill, NC, and Columbia, MO.  Her life with Harper
took her around the world.  She lived overseas in Japan, China, Canada, and
Australia.  She participated in many worthy causes, most notably anything to
do with the environment.
Margo was a member of the Oak Hammock community.  In addition to
creating many treasured friendships she participated in and led many clubs,
activities, and projects.
She was a voracious reader and always had a book for you to read or a
recommendation from an author she enjoyed.  She will be remembered as a
kind, gentle soul who loved making friends.  She will be missed by all who
knew and loved her.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2024 with Rev.
Lane Hensley officiating. Interment will be at the Prairie Creek Conservation
Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Morningside
Nature Center or The Butterfly Rainforest at the Florida Museum of Natural
History.
