Margaret Wald

–

Mayodan, North Carolina

It is with sadness and broken hearts that we share the loss of our beloved mom, gram, nannie, and great gammie, Margaret "Ruth" Wald, 102, who passed away on Monday, August 24, 2026, at home in Mayodan, NC.

Born in Torrington, CT, on September 7, 1923, to the late Andrew Arnold and Margaret Coyle Arnold. Ruth was the middle of three children.

In her youth, she belonged to the Math Club, French Club, Catholic Youth, Sons and Daughters of the American Legions, YMCA, and the School Choir.

At the age of 21, she married the love of her life, Arthur Wald, and they raised five children. They were avid square dancers and loved to dance. They also enjoyed years of camping up in Vermont with family and friends. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harwinton, CT for many years until their move to Gainesville, Florida, where they became members of St. Patrick Catholic Church. In Florida, they both became part of the bowling team for many years, and she was the treasurer and president of the Turkey Creek Forest Subdivision. She loved nature and animals, and she was most proud of her children.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband' her brother, Edward Arnold; her sister, Geraldine "Gerry" Waldron; and her daughter-in-law, Julie Wald.
Ruth Leaves behind her five children, Arthur Wald of S. Burlington, VT, Sheila Wald of Madison, NC, Gerald Wald of Madison, NC, Peg Wald of Gainesville, FL, and Andrea (Larry) Carroll of Mayodan, NC; many nieces and nephews; her grandsons, Christopher Ramsdell (Beth), Matthew Ramsdell, and Kyle Jurgens (Starr); and great grandchildren, Conner Ramsdell, James Ramsdell, and Aurora Hunt; bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren, Nora Carroll, Derek and Amanda Carroll, and their daughters, Raelynn, Finleigh, and Logan Carroll who were very special to her.

The unconditional love and selfless devotion she had for all of us will live on in all of us.

Services will be conducted in Gainesville, Florida, where she will be laid to rest.

A special thank you to Melissa and Stephanie of Hospice, who took such great care of her for the past 7 months. And also, to Kendell, for her kindness and compassion at the end.
