Gainesville, Florida
Went to dance in the clouds on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. She was born on August 13, 1945 in Winston Salem, North Carolina to Barbara Jeanne Cohn Burton and John Sibley Burton. She grew up doing what she loved most, riding horses and driving boats where she could feel the wind whip through her hair. She spent her teen years in Perry, Florida where she attended Taylor County High School and she was a member of the marching band. She loved that she passed that sense of adventure on to her children and grandchildren. She came to Gainesville where she worked at the Gainesville Hilton as a manager and then at Santa Fe Community College where she met her beloved ‘Jonathan’, John Taube. When he passed away in 1992, she was in school pursuing her dream to complete her education. In August of 1992, she became the House Director of Alpha Omicron Pi at the University of Florida. While working at AOII, she completed her Nursing Degree from Santa Fe College… which was no small feat! She was affectionately referred to as Mom Julie or simply Mom J; she had the honor and privilege to love hundreds of AOII sisters for over 24 years and even beyond her time there. She was an amazing mom to not only her biological children but those she adopted in her heart. She had a zest for life and was always up for a Grand Adventure! She is survived by her children Jonathan (Huyen) Padgett of Falls Church Virginia, Marion (Christopher) Claeboe of San Diego California, Julia Alison Waters ( Andrew Williams) of Lake Butler , Florida, Janis Taube (Zandy Hillel) of Baltimore Maryland, the child of her heart Tracy Chapin Adams of St Augustine, her sisters Janice Sibley Burton and Laura Burton Wigglesworth, her precious ‘Sunshines’ …. Jodie Johnson, Amber Templeton, Emily Claeboe, Brooke Waters, Jonathan M Padgett, Lance Claeboe, Jonathan Alex Claeboe, Natalie Jean Waters, Sky Hillel and C Hillel and her great grandsons Calyx Cook and Kai Johnson. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Taube, her mother Jeanne Jones, her father John Burton, her brother Justin Burton, her infant brother John Sibley Burton Jr, her granddaughter Laney Claeboe and her great-grandson Barrett Carver. She wants to be remembered for all the good times she shared with all those she loved and for her sense of adventure! At this time, there are no formal plans for a service. We will hold a small family memorial when the weather is warmer. In lieu of flowers, our family request that donations be made to Haven Hospice in Gainesville Florida in her honor and memory.
