James Ollmann

–

Newberry, Florida

James E. Ollmann died on January 16, 2026.
His life long love of World War II airplanes started early. He and his brother Frank (deceased) made model airplanes that flew with gas engines. When radio controlled systems developed he was there to build and fly these new systems. The airplanes led to his interest in photography. They both took a great number of pictures of airplanes.

He got his pilots license when he was in undergraduate school. In graduate school (Tallahassee) he joined a flying club and flew their planes. He took many of his friends up for airplane rides.

He took to salt water fishing when his brother moved to Tallahassee. They brought a boat and started fishing. They took boat loads of friends to Dog Island to fish and enjoy the beach. Both of his sons also became avid fishermen. He always included the family in his hobbies.

He left Tallahassee in 1972 to do postdoctoral research at The University of Ohio, department of Pharmacy.

He went to work in 1974 for Microbiological Associates in Bethesda, MD.
He then moved to St. Louis, MO in 1976 to work for Mallinckrodt.
In 1979 he went to work for PCR, Inc. in Gainesville, FL. He worked there, with a short transfer to Jacksonville, FL, until he retired in 2007.

After retirement he had a house built on 20 acres south of Trenton. He also bought an RV travel trailer and made trips out west. Visited Yellowstone, national parks in Utah, went to the grand canyon, and many other places on these trips.
