Harvey Lucius Montgomery, born on October 27, 1946, in Norfolk, VA, passed away on May 28, 2025. Harvey, a resident of Gainesville, Florida, will be forever remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family and his community. He lived a life of service, as reflected in his 4 years in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and impressive 41-year career in law enforcement, spanning roles at the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, the State's Attorney's Office, U.F. Police Dept. and the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office. Harvey's commitment to justice, protection, and service was a testament to his character.
Harvey was a man of many passions, which included hunting, fishing, and Florida Gator Football. As an expert marksman, Harvey was always eager to share his knowledge and skills with others as a Police Academy firearms instructor. He found immense joy in the thrill of drag race cars, assisting his son Jimmy with his racing endeavors and competing on track himself at times. He greatly enjoyed riding motorcycles with his other son Robert and horseback riding with daughter Michelle. However, Harvey’s love for these activities was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. His dedication to his loved ones was the cornerstone of his life, and he will be remembered for his tireless devotion.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ella Montgomery, and their three children, James Montgomery (Shannon) of Melrose, Robert Montgomery of High Springs, and Michelle Montgomery (Shaughnessy Hare) of Thousand Oaks, CA, brother, Larry Montgomery (Carol) of Australia, and sister Marie Barber (Randy) of California and his beloved dog, Owen (Buckshot). He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Sr. and Willie Mae Montgomery and brother Joseph Walter Montgomery.
