Edwin Brown

Mr. Edwin Wayne “Ed” Brown age 84 of Gainesville passed away at his home, Sunday, November 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 14, 1940, in Kissimmee, Florida to the late Amos and Mary Agnes (Green) Brown. Ed joined the United States Coast Guard in 1957 and retired as a lieutenant after 26 years. He dedicated himself to serving others in his roles as a corpsman and then as a medical administrator. He and the family enjoyed traveling together including duty stations in New York, New Orleans and Hawaii. After his service in the military, he served as CEO of Florida Community Health Centers in South Florida for another 26 years. Ed was guided by his strong faith and trust in God and was an active parishioner at Queen of Peace Catholic Community. He enjoyed reading, traveling and amateur photography. Affectionately known as “granddaddy,” Ed always said his greatest hobby was spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. He always made everyone who visited feel welcomed as family. Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Sheila Jean Brown, and their children Sheryl (Chris) Montrowl ,Stacie(Keith) Whinnery, Stefanie (Joe)Peters and Edwin (Annette) Brown Jr, their grandchildren Jennifer (Jason)Powell, Matthew (Gabby)Barnes, Melissa (Brian) Law, Nathan (Emelly) Barnes, Mikayla (Erwin) Malabanan, Mckenzie Harrison and Spencer Brown and their great grandchildren Job and Jemma Powell. A Memorial Mass will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church on December 28, 2024 at 10 am with Father Alberto Esposito presiding. Entombment will immediately follow at the Queen of Peace Columbarium with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Gianna’s Place, P.O.
