Dolores Clark

–

Gainesville, Florida

Dolores Elizabeth "Dee" Clark (Flynn), a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and passionate political activist, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026. Raised in Haverhill, Mass., she spent her childhood enjoying the warmth of winters in Dania Beach, Florida, as her parents embraced the "snowbird" lifestyle. She graduated from South Broward High School in Hollywood, Florida, and soon after married Hugh (Toby) Edward Tobin Sr. in 1957. Together they raised two children, Hugh Edward Tobin Jr. (deceased) and Kimberly Ann (Tobin) Fabis. Their early years were marked by Toby's career as an aspiring thoroughbred jockey, which took them between residences in Chicago and Dania Beach. Though their marriage ended they remained amicable as they continued their respective journeys.

She was a woman of many talents and ambitions; worked as a Master Cosmetologist and owner of the "Pink Clothesline," a women's boutique while raising her family. Her entrepreneurial spirit extended to public service when she ran for a City of Dania Commission seat. Although she was not elected, this experience marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to community involvement.

She met and later married her beloved, retired Army Lt. Col. John (Jack) S. Clark. They married March 17, 1981. Together they shared a love for adventures and the sea, created countless memories sailing with family and friends and participating in Columbus Day regatta races aboard their sailboat "C-Breeze”. In 1989 they retired their sea legs and settled in Gainesville where there would be European vacations, Hot Air Balloon and Glider rides, attending the Rose Bowl and many family vacations and celebrations with the Children and Grandchildren.

Dee then channeled her energy into political activism as a lifelong registered Republican. Joining the Gainesville Federated Republican Women's Club in 1990 and she quickly rose through its ranks to serve as President. Her passion for Republican values led her to leadership roles within the Alachua County Republican Committee and the Florida Federated Republican organization. She represented her community as a delegate at three Republican National Conventions and received numerous awards recognizing her dedication and contributions to the party. Beyond politics, Dolores was deeply committed to charitable work. She served as Treasurer and an active member of the Board of Directors for United Cerebral Palsy of Miami. She gave her time and talent to many Annual Weekend with the Stars Telethons fundraisers.

Dolores's life was enriched by her family and loved ones. She is survived by her Daughter, 3 Stepchildren, 11 Grandchildren, several Great-Grandchildren and her beloved cat “Scooter”; all who brought much joy to her life.

Dolores's legacy was in making a difference through advocacy, community service and love for family and friends alike. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, June 11, 2026 at the Milam Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Friday, June 12, 2026 at 11:30am in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida.
