David Alan Uhl, age 61, of Gainesville, Florida passed away on March 18, 2025. Born in Chillicothe, Ohio to Alfred “Bub” Uhl and Joellen Hall Uhl.
Alan graduated from East Clinton High School in 1981. He followed his older sister Sandy to Gainesville in 1982 where he fell in love with central Florida and all of its natural environment. He attended Saint Leo University and graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Computer and Information Sciences. Alan went on to pursue a career as a computer programmer, software engineer, and consultant for several different forensic and medical software firms. Most notably, Alan was responsible for building and maintaining a leads tracking system that provided supporting evidence for the arrest of Danny Rollins.
Alan was not only intelligent and creative, but also a compassionate friend of nature, unwilling to turn down any animal, plant or human in need. This included his rescued cats whom he loved very much. He was happiest in a kayak or on a bike and competed yearly in the Tour De Felasco at the San Felasco Hammock Preserve. Alan enjoyed traveling the world watching his daughters Miranda and Sadie compete in swimming competitions. He was well known in the stands for his deep and audible cheer before every race.
Alan is survived by his daughters, Sadie Uhl and Miranda (Adam) Romano and granddaughter, Vivienne Romano. He is also survived by his brother, Robert Uhl. In addition to his parents, Alan was preceded by his sister and best friend, Sandy Solomon.
A Celebration of Life is planned this summer for close family and friends on the Santa Fe River. Donations in his memory can be made to the Alachua Conservation Trust that reflect his care and concern for protecting Florida’s natural land.
