Lake Butler, Florida
Alray Harvey passed away on March 12, 2026 in Gainesville, Florida, surrounded by family. He was 69 years old.
Mr. Harvey was born on January 16, 1957 in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was the son of Alfred Anthony Harvey and Annie Laura Touchstone Harvey. Alray grew up in a home with five sisters in an Army family, and lived in Germany, Kentucky, and Georgia. Growing up, he and his sisters were always together and always shared stories of playing and mischief that they were constantly doing. His family moved to Lake Butler, Florida after his father retired from the military where he grew up.
Mr. Harvey worked for the Coca Cola company managing hunting ranches first in Lake Butler, and later in Ona, Florida. While working there, he managed the ranches for the wildlife and guided hunts. In his time here, he served as a hunting guide to many prominent business people, politicians, and even some celebrities. He made many lasting connections with the people he guided.
He was a very talented trainer of bird dogs during his time here and throughout the years he bred, raised, and trained countless fine pointing dogs. His dogs were so well trained that he was repeatedly offered large amounts of money to sell the dogs. He would always politely decline because he loved keeping his dogs that he had raised. He ultimately retired and returned to Lake Butler in 2016.
He had a passion for the outdoors which guided much of his life. He spent most of his time in his career and in his free time hunting, fishing, trapping, or simply relaxing in the outdoors. He particularly loved teaching his nephews to hunt and fish, and instilled a love of the outdoors in them as well. Alray had a deep and encompassing knowledge of nature, and was able to pass this knowledge on through them.
Alray was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Joannie Harvey.
He is survived by his sisters: Elaine Fletcher, Becky Parker, Brenda Seay, and Beverly Whitlock. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
There will be a memorial on Sunday, March 29th at 3:00 pm at Dekle Cemetery in Lake Butler, Florida.
