PARKER, ALFRED BROWNING Notable South Florida Architect, Alfred Browning Parker, died Friday March 11, 2011 in Gainesville Florida. Born in Boston Massachusetts on September 24, 1916 to Jewel Fry and James Arden Parker, he is survived by his wife Euphrosyne Parker, three sons Robin Zachary Parker, Jules Graham Parker, and Quentin Dart Parker, and two daughters Bebe (Emily) Coyle and Lebritia Parker Kendrick. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Derek Browning Parker. Parker, an architect and an emeritus professor at the University of Florida School of Architecture, established his practice in the early 1940s in South Florida. He quickly gained popularity for his modernist style through his design and craftsmanship of numerous residences, primarily in the greater Miami area. A man ahead of his time, Alfred Parker was an environmentally "green" conscious architect and visionary before it came into fashion. Parker's belief was to "Build strongly. Build as directly as possible with no complications. Use the materials at hand and keep those as few as you can. Let your building love its site and glorify its climate. Design for use and make it beautiful." A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of MILAM FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES, 311 S.
